Field Sobriety Tests & DUI in Ventura, California
A field sobriety test is an integral part of a Ventura DUI arrest. A law enforcement officer will typically use field sobriety testing to determine whether a driver may be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, after pulling the driver over for suspected drunk driving. Field sobriety tests are used to gauge a driver’s balance, coordination and ability to follow instructions.

One Leg Stand: stand on one leg with the other lifted slightly off the ground. Tests balance and coordination.
Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus: follow a light or object with the eyes. Looking for an involuntary side-to-side jerking movement of the eyes, said to indicate intoxication.
